I suggest you ...

Push current vessel/location to web AIS services (Mobile apps)

Okay - this is kind of controversial - but if you were to partner up with one (or more) of the AIS data providers such as marinetraffic.com or aislive.com, you could "write" or "push" one's information (in AIS format) to these services, so one's vessel could be viewed from any of the services/web pages/software which uses this AIS data to display vessel locations.

This would let people view "live" vessel information through any such services - though it would (controversially) not be visible to people on vessels with actual AIS receivers.

ALTERNATIVELY:

Any type of method to periodically push location/course/vessel information to a web server where it could be viewed/tracked by others would be both a fun and helpful feature - as one that could aide in safety.

Hi Brad, per our previous msg, we like the idea and have been thinking how we can best implement this – security / privacy issues notwithstanding. Will advise!
