  1. Add a way to edit the lat/long of saved waypoints.

Can change the name of a waypoint but not the lat/ long.

  3. Re, Charts for iPad, v. 2.0 how about a simple FAQ to explain stuff like the following.

Questions about EarthNC Charts for iPad, ver. 2.0 ($20)

How about putting together a simple document to explain all this stuff? Someone could write in 15 minutes enough tod save new users several hours.
    1. How do you remove waypoints after you generate them?
    2. How can you move a waypoint to exactly where you want to put it?
    3. I presume the top icon is a button to find current location. Tap to make it green and it goes to your current location.
    4. What is the sixth icon in the column, the one with the x in it? …

  4. Provide a quick & easy way to update all your charts

Make a button (or something) one can use to update their charts to the latest/newest version.

Maybe even an automatic, background check/update too - but this would have to be very "we'll behaved" - ie using WiFi only, and not disrupting use if chart update is interrupted, etc.

A way or telling *if* the charts are up-to-date (or how far off they are) would kinda be important here, too.

  5. Create a way to import .gpx or other transferable waypoint lists

It would be nice to download .gpx or other waypoint list files to import fishing spots and other personal waypoints from a gps

  7. Support user-downloaded NOAA ENC files (on SD card).

I can download my entire cruising are from NOAA as ENC files. It would be way cool if I could transfer them to my SD card and have EarthNC use them.

This general idea keeps coming up so we’re thinking about ways we might include uploaded maps as another layer. Our principle challenge is that we currently tile all of the NOAA ENC’s into a singular chart layer (at all published zoom levels). So, incorporating imported charts would either have to be integrated into our process (somehow) or we would just allow them to appear as individual chart tiles – which might be a weird experience. If we’re supplying all of the same charts, we’re curious as to what the big payoff would be here?

  9. Include bridge info (if not already available)

Include height unopened, whether or not bridge opens, width, and opening times if not on demand. This is important info for waterway users.

  10. "Social" Chart additions...

By this, I don't mean navaids and such - but rather allow people to add things such as Marinas, Anchorage locations/reports and (most important) boat ramps.

"Couldn't this clutter the maps with potential junk?" Yes - so this is where the "social" aspect comes in - sort of like how Google Maps deals with maps updates, or how StackExchange deals with users:

When someone adds a location, others can click-to-rate on a simple "5-star" scale. Something which receives low stars, will probably get dropped from the chart.

People can optionally "declutter" their view by opting to view only "X-Star" rated…

  11. reduce ad area

The advertisement space at the bottom of the page is significantly reducing the chart area. My iPad view is much better than on my computer because of this. I'd pay a small amount to have a better picture. Thanks.

  12. Mississippi River

Is there any way you could make the Mississippi River charts available at this link available in EarthNC for iPad?

  14. Provide the same Google Earth overlay (Hybrid Charts) on the mobile apps that you have for the online viewer

Currently the online viewer has the ability to show a hybrid view that includes both the chart as well as google earth. This would be extremely helpful on the mobile app.

  16. allow editing and annotating Points of Interest.

I sail on an inland lake. All the markers and bouys are shown as POIs with no other info. I want to be able to add naming info such as the marker number and to be able to add a description.

This is a good idea and one that we’re hopefully close to implementing with our universal ID system so that you can append comments on both the app, web-site etc… Not sure when this will happen, but we’re working on it.

  18. Push current vessel/location to web AIS services (Mobile apps)

Okay - this is kind of controversial - but if you were to partner up with one (or more) of the AIS data providers such as marinetraffic.com or aislive.com, you could "write" or "push" one's information (in AIS format) to these services, so one's vessel could be viewed from any of the services/web pages/software which uses this AIS data to display vessel locations.

This would let people view "live" vessel information through any such services - though it would (controversially) not be visible to people on vessels with actual AIS receivers.

    ALTERNATIVELY:

Any type of method to periodically push location/course/vessel…

Hi Brad, per our previous msg, we like the idea and have been thinking how we can best implement this – security / privacy issues notwithstanding. Will advise!

  19. Datum and chart info blocking crucial fishing areas

I was expecting a chart plotter app for 20$ not a GPS that "drives" over a chart jpg.
