For the time being, you can readily drop a waypoint by selecting the Flag icon on the main screen on both the iPhone and Android apps. We’re looking into how we can enable a MOB button that is larger and more prominent – without screwing up the overall UI. Will advise…:)
MOB is critical - safety at SEA. It's much more likely we'll have our tablet/phone handy when someone goes into the drink, so we'll reach for that device first to mark on map.
Both of these are great ideas. We"ll probably jump on #2 first as that was an oversight on our part. Will advise.
Folks, our situation with this request is that we have fairly sophisticated algorithms that stitch all of the individual chart together as a seamless national quilt. In our system, you can search for a certain region (state, city, harbor or, for that matter, marker) and the system takes you right to that point. It would be very difficult to retrofit the system to “extract” individual charts. What would be helpful is to hear from you as to whether this is a make or break, or just something you’re used to doing?
Please look at Rosepoint Coastal Explorer's chart update and categorization system.
It's phenomenal, simple and easy for the user. We can choose regions to update (supersets?), and under that it lists all the charts by Chart # as well as by tile on a big map.
This general idea keeps coming up so we’re thinking about ways we might include uploaded maps as another layer. Our principle challenge is that we currently tile all of the NOAA ENC’s into a singular chart layer (at all published zoom levels). So, incorporating imported charts would either have to be integrated into our process (somehow) or we would just allow them to appear as individual chart tiles – which might be a weird experience. If we’re supplying all of the same charts, we’re curious as to what the big payoff would be here?
Seems like you might save yourself headaches now if you invested effort into matching tiling efforts of desktop apps using these charts. Then as format changes and chart updates come out you can keep us users in sync more easily.
